About us
The Royal School Learn to Swim Centre is a large and successful swimming programme which operates out of the Hilda Hayward Swimming Pool on Goldthorn Road, behind The Royal School on the Penn Road.
A wide variety of classes
The Learn to Swim programme operates over six days of the week. The programme offers a wide range of classes at varying times each day and it is our aim to accommodate and welcome as many swimmers as we can into the programme.
Fully Qualified Swim Teachers
All sessions are run by Level 2 swimming teachers. We also offer a Level 1 Assistant to support our swimming teachers for the relevant beginners classes and believe the joint working offers an excellent standard of teaching. All of our sessions are monitored by qualified lifeguards who provide supervision and assistance to all users of the swimming pool facility. All sessions operate with three lifeguards on shift to ensure the highest level of safety and wellbeing for our users.
Available hire to the public
Alongside the Learn to Swim programme the centre itself also offers the chance for external use of the swimming pool via school swimming, activity programmes, pool parties and much more. In addition to the swimming pool the Complex boasts of a full size floodlit all weather astro turf pitch, dance studio, seminar room and sports hall/ gymnasium which are hired out by local clubs and organisations. Café Area with free wifi
On the first floor of the complex you will find the Splash pool café. The café is open for refreshments and food during the operating hours of the Learn to Swim programme. The seating area of the café is also open to use during the centre opening hours for general use and access to free wifi.
